UrbanKIT Plattform

Digital civic-participation platform for a city: public portal plus a per-project collaboration workspace with modular tools.

UrbanKIT is the digital civic-participation platform of a municipality. A public portal makes ongoing and completed participation projects visible to all citizens — including news, events, poll results and CMS-managed content pages. In addition, a protected per-project workspace enables collaboration between project teams and registered participants through toggleable feature modules: news, calendar, polls, forum, tasks, chat, a collaborative realtime whiteboard (Excalidraw over Hocuspocus/Yjs), file storage and a provider-agnostic AI assistant (Urban Agent). The visibility of every piece of content is controlled on three levels (public / project participants / team), with access control enforced server-side per project role. Colors, logos and project color schemes are fully configurable from the admin backend ("chameleon" design tokens), so the platform can be rebranded for another municipality without code changes. Technically, UrbanKIT is a single Next.js 15 application (App Router, React 19) with Payload CMS 3 embedded on MongoDB; the interface is German-first with an English fallback. A seed script with seven prototype projects allows spinning up a realistically populated demo instance immediately.
