KIWI
Input aid for convenient entry of Latin characters in Unicode (DIN 91379), for names, addresses and diacritics not found on conventional keyboards.
KIWI (Kinderleicht Wortbestandteile integrieren - “integrating word components with ease”) is an input aid for the convenient and efficient input of characters from the character set Latin characters in Unicode. Characters with diacritics (e.g. Ẫ, D̂, Ģ, M̂) or of non-German origin (e.g. ð, ø, þ) are generally not found on conventional German keyboards. KIWI makes all characters from the character set Latin characters in Unicode easy to find and enter. In KIWI, names with diacritical characters can be entered using a conventional keyboard and then copied into any application. The character set is particularly relevant for names of natural and legal persons and for addresses in German public administration. The standard Latin characters in Unicode is maintained by the Coordination Office for IT Standards (KOSIT) on behalf of the IT Planning Council and is defined in DIN 91379. A hosted demo is available at kiwi.muenchen.de.
