Bareos

Open-source backup, recovery and data management software for mixed IT environments.

Bareos

Bareos (Backup Archiving REcovery Open Sourced) is open-source software for backup, recovery and archiving in mixed IT environments. It helps organizations back up, restore and manage data across networks, operating systems, storage targets and workloads. The architecture is designed for deployments with many clients, multiple storage daemons and different backup targets. Bareos supports Linux, Windows, FreeBSD, macOS and other established operating systems. Backups can be stored on disk, tape and S3-compatible object storage. A catalog-based approach helps users find, select and restore the right data. Administration and restore workflows are supported through command-line tools, a scriptable console and a web-based user interface. The software provides encrypted communication, backup encryption, role-based access control, support for Always Incremental backup strategies and extension points through plugins. This allows Bareos to protect virtual environments, databases and specialized workloads while remaining transparent and fully open source under the AGPLv3 license. Further reading:
